Why we created HomeCritic

DigitalCritic focuses on digital products such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions and smartwatches. As everyday home products become smarter, more connected and harder to compare, we created a dedicated space for home technology reviews: HomeCritic.

Some products do not fit neatly into DigitalCritic's existing categories. A smartphone, tablet or TV can usually be compared through display quality, performance, battery life, software support and value for money. Home technology is different. A portable air conditioner, robot vacuum or window cleaning robot needs to be judged by how well it works in a real home, how easy it is to maintain, how noisy it is, how much space it needs and whether it suits the household it is being bought for.

Instead of mixing appliances and smart home products into DigitalCritic's personal technology coverage, HomeCritic gives those categories their own editorial space.

Hands-on home technology testing

HomeCritic is built around practical home-use questions: setup, maintenance, noise, space, floor types, window access, cooling needs and the daily friction that does not always show up in a spec sheet.

Portable air conditioners are judged around setup, hose fit, room suitability, noise and everyday use.

Robot vacuum reviews look beyond suction claims to mapping, brush access, maintenance and floor layout fit.

What HomeCritic covers

HomeCritic is focused on practical home technology products for UK buyers. The site is designed to help readers compare products by everyday fit, not just technical specifications.

How HomeCritic is different from DigitalCritic

DigitalCritic will continue to focus on personal and digital technology products, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, monitors, projectors and wearables. HomeCritic is focused specifically on technology for the home.

  • DigitalCritic: personal technology, screens, mobile devices and digital electronics.
  • HomeCritic: home technology, cleaning automation, cooling, air quality and practical household products.

This separation keeps each site clearer and more useful. DigitalCritic can stay focused on personal technology, while HomeCritic can judge home products around practical buying questions: the type of home, setup, maintenance, noise, space, running costs and real everyday limitations.
